EN The epicontinental record of the central European Lower Cretaceous has been sparingly studied, largely due to the scarcity of suitable exposures. The Lower Cretaceous strata in the Owadów-Brzezinki quarry (central Poland) provide remarkable insight into Early Cretaceous environments in central Europe, as they lie at the boundary of the Tethys and Boreal palaeobiogeographical provinces, and captures the terrestrial-marine transitional zone. In this study, we investigate the micropalaeontological (foraminiferal and palynological) record of a recently discovered Lower Cretaceous succession from the Owadów-Brzezinki quarry to reconstruct its environmental context. Collectively, these assemblages constrain the Owadów-Brzezinki succession to the Valanginian, with deposition occurring in a marginal marine (mangrove?), brackish, dysoxic, setting within a warm, (sub)tropical, and humid climate.
